It's been a long strange trip...

FOI_2

About four years ago, or more, Jessica approached me with an idea - choreography that was swirling in her head that she didn't feel capable of performing on a stage due to her life altering experience with Chronic Lyme. Those ideas became the concept for a film. That film became Forms of Identification, a project that blossomed into a catalyst for dialogue and connection, precisely what Jessica and I want our artistic messages to invoke - an emotional reaction in the heart, mind and soul of the viewer - something that might change the way they think, feel and live.

After the many trials of filmmaking, the highs and lows of being ecstatic in our creative process, and crashing with technological and financial difficulties, we stayed the course, and that course has taken us through six film festivals, a couple awards, and a handful of community screenings supported and hosted by friends who believe in our art and message. And now, we feel like we're standing at the threshold where our film is being recognized for its genuine worth.

I'm about to get on a plane to Detroit, the city where my very creative father was born, to present our film at the Society for Arts in Health Care International Conference, which includes a film festival. Forms of Identification will be viewed by the very people we want to see it, understand it, connect with it, and perhaps use it to move people who are experiencing the type of crisis our film explores: who am I when I can no longer recognize myself?

It has been a long road to get here, and I feel blessed that our film arrived at this window of opportunity. We are just at the beginning. I can't wait to tell you how rewarding the experience in Detroit was for this project, the one that Jessica and I never gave up on, despite the odds, that YOU supported and made happen.

Thank you again to all of our supporters for helping us get here, and by supporters I mean the people who volunteered, played extras, lent us cameras and equipment, provided music and other creative services, gave advice, made monetary donations, spread the word, and basically made us feel like we were on the right track. Your contributions paid off.

We're on our way.

Fantastic Feature of FOI on Lipstick & Politics

Katrina Markel of of the women's politics and culture blog, Lipstick & Politics, conducted a cyber Q&A with me and Jessica.

Katrina asked us some interesting questions that made us reflect on the filmmaking process and the universality of the quest for identity definition.

We are so thrilled to get exposure on women-oriented blogs, especially during a time when women are [still] fighting so hard to be portrayed holistically in the media. It's so important for the portrayals of women in the media to be diverse, strong, profound and human!

Soon to hit the press (or silk screen, that is)

We are at the tail end of production on our limited edition artistic DVD for Forms of Identification. Here are a few views of the outer and inner jacket, which unfolds, just like the film, to reveal different layers of our identity.

FOI_DVD_1

This unique DVD was conceptualized and designed by Stacy Asher and Kristin Tieche, based on the most striking scenes and lines from the film.

FOI_DVD_2

Of course, our design would be without meaning if it weren't for the moving choreography and interpretation of Jessica Ingersoll-Cope.

FOI_DVD_3

The limited edition art DVDs are currently being silk-screened by hand one by one by Stacy Asher. A small batch will be available for purchase through our official website and at special events in late March or early April of 2012. Details to come.

As for our regular DVDs, we are printing another batch the week of March 6, 2012. So if you are still expecting your reward from your Kickstarter donation, it will be coming to you very, very soon!

IDSA gets an earful from angry Lyme sufferers

Just look at how many responses to the IDSA's question "What do you want to see from your society this coming?" were angry Lyme sufferers demanding that they recognize chronic Lyme and DO something to protect and adequately treat patients!! Over 1,800!! IDSA has a very problematic outlook when it comes to the complex issue of chronic Lyme.  https://www.facebook.com/IDSociety
